Foundations &
Support Structures
01
Built by our skilled and locally based team, Mission Construction foundations and support structures are exceptionally strong, durable, and long-lasting. Build to withstand the environmental forces of the Gorge, we provide a strong foundation for the rest of your build.
-
Based in Hood River, Oregon, Mission Construction specializes in building high-quality foundations and concrete projects for commercial, industrial, and residential projects.
-
Footings sit directly on the soil and support everything above them. Spreading the weight of the structure over a larger area so the ground can safely carry the load.
We work with structural engineers throughout the build process to ensure footings match your project’s structural requirements.
-
Stem walls sit on top of the footings to support the structure above it.
Our stem walls are made of customizable Ready-Mix concrete from the Gorge Crete plant and reinforced with rebar. Ensuring the rest of your structure starts with a solid foundation.
-
Concrete retaining walls are especially useful in the Columbia River Gorge, where heavy rainfall and unstable slopes make extra support essential for preventing erosion and maintaining safe, usable spaces.

FAQs
General
-
The ideal foundation depends on your soil conditions, climate, building design, and budget. Common options include slab-on-grade, crawl space foundations, and full basements. Contact us for an estimate!
-
A properly designed, reinforced, and maintained concrete foundation can last 50–100 years or more, depending on environmental conditions.
-
A foundation’s strength depends on several critical factors, including the stability of the soil beneath it, the size and design of its footings, the quality of the concrete mix, and the amount of reinforcement used. Proper curing, good drainage, and skilled construction practices also play a major role, helping the foundation resist cracking, shifting, and long-term wear from environmental conditions and structural loads.
-
You may need special soil preparation if your property has signs of unstable, wet, or expansive soil—such as soft or spongy ground, poor drainage, large cracks in the earth, or noticeable shifting or settling. A professional soil test or site evaluation can confirm whether the soil requires grading, compaction, added gravel, or engineered support before pouring a foundation.
